In the early 1950's Leslie Wheeler was getting used to life back on the farm as opposed to the life of an Army Air Corps pilot flying B-24s out of Italy. He and a few friends decided to plow under some of the fields behind his house and open their own small air strip.
Now the current taxi-way; the original runway was an 1650' east-west strip with just a few hangars on the south side. The current runway, a 3000' north-south strip, was added many years later. And, over the years many friends have joined in the fun at Westfield expanding the current hangar count to over 30.
Today, Leslie's children & grandchildren maintain the airport in the same manner that Leslie did for over 50 years.
